Republicans are constantly using songs without the songwriters’ permissions, and often against their express wishes. So far, they’ve gotten away with it because they’ve purchased blanket rights to songs, the way radio stations do, but there have recently been a couple of court cases that may finally put a stop to the practice, given that politicians aren’t radio stations. The hypocrisy of this particular use, however, was particularly disgusting, and the songwriters were quick to condemn it.
To be fair, Democrats have been guilty of this as well. Like, twice. And they stopped as soon as they were asked to.
