I Can’t Stand Losing You

004 I Can't Stand Losing You

There was a time in my life when I truly believed this was true. I saw 10,000 Maniacs in Nashville–they soon broke up. I saw Toad the Wet Sprocket in Knoxville–they broke up. During the second of the best two days of my life* I saw the Pixies, and . . . yep. Broke up.

For awhile I stopped going to see bands I really liked because I was afraid they wouldn’t survive the experience. When R.E.M. announced their break-up a couple of months after I saw them for my birthday, I feared the curse had returned. Haven’t seen a major act since.

Incidentally, not only did my parents not conceive me before a Police concert, just the thought of my parents at a Police concert makes me giggle–my father thought good music ended with Lawrence Welk; my mother, with Mozart.

*One Wednesday when I was in college I drove to Atlanta to see Primus open for Rush at the Omni. The next day, I went back to see The Pixies open for U2. Squee!
